A wider angle of the Folly Beach sign
near the (unmarked) southern terminus of SC 125
This pier on the northern side of the eastern end of the island launches into mud -- it takes quite a tide to cover the area. The difference between the tides is quite noticeable, however, as the dropoff from the water line into the ocean along Folly Beach is an extremely gentle slope. One can wander far from the beach out into the water and still touch the bottom. The rips are nothing compared to those found in Gulf Shores and the Florida Panhandle along the Gulf of Mexico.
